A safe, welcoming space for young people in Woodside

The Hangout@ is a free youth café based at The Park Lane Centre, created as part of the Youth Education, Employment and Aspirations Project under Woodside Working Together.

The café launched in 2025 with  40 young people attending over the summer of 2025, and continues to run due to strong engagement from young people and the local community.

What’s On Offer

The Hangout@ is a relaxed, supportive place where young people can spend time, meet others, and access opportunities.

Every session includes:

🥗 Free healthy food

🥤 Free milkshakes

🎮 A chilled space to hang out

💬 Supportive adults to talk to if needed

🎨 Activities and creative opportunities

Young people can take part as much or as little as they want.

What We’ve Achieved So Far

Since launching in 2025:

✅ now around 20 young people attend regularly

✅ 5 young volunteers have gained:

Work experience

Confidence and practical skills

Recognised qualifications

Stronger engagement with young people who may face barriers

The café continues to develop based on young people’s ideas and feedback.

Volunteering Opportunities (Aged 16+)

We actively encourage young people aged 16+ to become volunteers at The Hangout@.

Volunteering offers:

Valuable experience for CVs, college or job applications

Opportunities to gain qualifications

Training, support and mentoring

A chance to help shape the café and support others

Keeping Young People Safe

The safety and wellbeing of young people is our priority.

All sessions are supervised by trained staff

Clear behaviour and safeguarding policies are in place

Parent / carer consent is required for regular attendance

Looking Ahead

The Hangout@ will continue to run alongside new community projects launching from April 2026, shaped by local voices and the Community Forum.
